The state of Illinois has passed a law banning AI bots from providing therapy.
On the one hand: I'm glad to see states enacting laws around AI chatbots and these kinds of sensitive services.
On the other hand: I'm disappointed that they need to enact laws for this. This seems like the sort of thing genAI bot providers should already know to not offer as standalone service, and to inhibit others from using their bot systems to offer such services.
(Yes, yes, my usual phrase: "should." Often followed by the word "have.")
