First, do it manually
2025-08-04

Following up on something I said last week, I'm reminded of something I often tell consulting clients and prospects:

1/ Since tech is all about automation, do yourself a favor and try to perform the task by hand. That will tell you which steps are amenable to AI, which are suitable for code, and which you'll still need to do manually.

2/ Code is great for firm business rules you already know. Models work best when you don't know the rules a priori and/or those rules are squishy. Sometimes, though, training a model will reveal that you do indeed have a set of firm rules! In that case, you can express those rules in code.
