You know that oft-cited figure, that 80% of a software project's total price tag is in maintenance?

We'll see the same with AI: the lion's share of TCO will cover longer-term issues like mishaps/errors, unexpected cases, monitoring, legal wrangling, PR fallout ...

How did we get here? Similar to software dev about fifteen years ago, the tools for AI have demolished the barrier to entry.

It's too fast and easy to launch an AI project before you've thought through the full spectrum of opportunities and ramifications.

So, long story short: if you're pricing out that AI project and you've only accounted for the initial model build + hosting, you are in for a rude surprise.
